Therapeutic Areas

Animerra is focused on three major therapeutic areas where the limitations of traditional antibodies have left significant unmet needs in companion animal health — and where our novel biologic modalities open new possibilities.

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is one of the most underserved areas in companion animal medicine. Existing treatments often fall short, due to safety concerns, limited efficacy, and/or dosing regimens that are difficult for owners to maintain over time. Improving both the safety profile and the dosing schedule of pain therapeutics is critical to maximizing owner compliance and patient outcomes.

Many of the most promising targets in chronic pain — including ion channels and GPCRs — are fundamentally inaccessible to traditional IgG antibodies. Animerra’s proprietary screening platform and novel modalities are specifically designed to engage these cell-surface targets and cryptic epitopes, opening a new class of pain therapeutics that has previously been out of reach.

Fibrosis

Fibrosis is a shared driver of pathogenesis across some of the most prevalent and serious chronic diseases in companion animals, including diseases of the kidney and heart. Despite the central role fibrosis plays in these conditions, it remains an unaddressed area in veterinary medicine.

Importantly, many of the targets that address fibrotic disease are also increasingly associated with improved longevity and healthspan — making this therapeutic area relevant not just to sick animals, but to the broader goal of helping companion animals live longer, healthier lives. Animerra’s versatile biologics are well-suited to engage the key targets in this space.

Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis is among the most common chronic conditions in dogs, significantly affecting quality of life for both animals and their owners. While several treatments exist, significant gaps remain — particularly for patients who respond incompletely to current options or who experience drug tolerability issues over long-term use.

Animerra is focused on a subset of targets that have proven difficult or impossible to address with traditional IgG antibodies. Successfully drugging these targets has the potential to yield highly differentiated stand-alone therapeutics, as well as complementing existing treatments — meaningfully expanding the treatment landscape for this condition.
